Our Teachers

All of our teachers undergo an intensive training through Music Together® LLC and the Princeton Center for Music and Young Children to become registered Music Together teachers. We have all completed an apprenticeship and continue to receive the latest research from the field with ongoing Music Together workshops before the start of each new session. We are specially trained to create a safe atmosphere where you can happily join in, experiment, and even get silly -- all while strengthening the bond with your child. We are all passionate about music and the development of young children, and hope to inspire a whole new generation of music-makers who can sing in tune, move in rhythm and participate with joy and confidence as they create music with family and friends throughout their lives. We create a fun, informal, social setting that spurs engagement and supports each child's musical development. We love what we do!

Jamie Washington

Jamie began her Music Together journey under the direction of Dr. Lili Levinowitz (a co-founder of Music Together!) while attending Rowan University and quickly fell in love with teaching music to children of all ages. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in Vocal Music Education in 2016 and moved to NYC to pursue her dream of teaching music in the city. Jamie has been a public elementary school music teacher in the Bronx for the past seven years and has privately taught voice, piano, music theory, and guitar lessons for the past fifteen years. In 2020, Jamie and her husband Travis founded a nonprofit organization, Journey to Harmony, which supplied food/resources to their community and formed the Bronx's first district-wide elementary choir. She continued to grow her interest in music and its impact on learning and received her Master's degree in Educational Psychology in 2021. Jamie was introduced to Music Together when she began attending classes with her daughter Lyrica, and she loves making Music Together with Heart & Beat Music families!

Siobhan O'Malley, Director

Siobhan (Center Director/Owner of Heart and Beat Music) is delighted to be part of the Music Together family!  Siobhan grew up in a musical family that used to crowd around a piano and sing together (no lie!).  Music was as much a part of her childhood as eating and breathing and for that she thanks her lucky stars!  Her family unearthed a recording of some songs she wrote as a kid, including the Casio-backed songs "France Is Good For You" and "Puff Pies (Any Kind You Want)".  She studied classical piano for over 10 years, and then made her way into learning guitar, banjo, and ukelele (in that order).

After receiving her B.A. in theatre from James Madison University, she worked as an actor while also discovering her passion for music-making.  As a singer-songwriter,  Siobhan has released three albums ("Permanent Markers", "Alibi Bye", and "Let's Get Ahead of Ourselves, Baby!") which are all available on all streaming services.  Siobhan regularly plays her music in venues in NYC and has toured the US as well.  You can see her live or hear her "grown up" songs at www.siobhanomalley.com.

She and her cousins (The O'Malley Family Band) are also the resident house band at the "Mortified" shows in Brooklyn every month.

She and her husband, Ben, love making up goofy songs for their daughter, Beatrice and son, Ernie. She is passionate about the Music Together program and loves making music together with all of you!
